Who is Simply Amari?
Hi there! This is Marissa (or Amari for short), a normal young adult with normal everyday problems. I struggle with getting up every morning, folding my laundry when it comes out of the dryer, and well, being just young. A few years ago I was in a dark place and didn’t know what I wanted to do with my life, I am sure plenty of us can relate, so I decided that living in a place that made me unhealthy was never going to fix the problems I was having.
I knew then I need to change moving forward.
So I decided to pick up and move cross country to Sunny Florida, I got a beautiful apartment and started classes at the local college, I was finally feeling better about myself and starting to get healthy. At the time I was going to take classes to become a Family Lawyer, meaning a major in Family Psychology and a Minor in English then once I finished I was planning on getting my JD to become a full lawyer. It was a great well thought out 6 year plan.
But life has a funny way of throwing curve balls at you.
When I was 16 I found out I had this condition called, Poly-cystic Ovarian Syndrome, PCOS for short. For those of you who may not know what this is, it’s a hormonal disorder where your ovaries develop numerous small cysts which causes infertility.
Can you see where this is going?
I found out I was 3 months pregnant with my little princess, Ariana. Which was unplanned, unexpected and a miracle all wrapped into one. At the time her father and I were not speaking actually we had blocked each other, it was a messy break-up to end a toxic relationship so I had no plans of letting him know I was pregnant. Although thanks to social media he ended up finding out and convincing, (tricking) me to move back to Illinois. My pregnancy was toxic the entire time and then with no help to him I gave birth to my little love.
I ended up leaving her dad and he chose to have no contact with his daughter after that, leaving me a single mom. I was much happier and so was Aria but once again I felt stuck and I wanted to move back to Florida or Washington and I didn’t know to do. Thankfully I started a great job and was able to move into a better place which helped fight the urge to just pack up and move.
So what is Simply Amari about?
On my blog nothing is picture perfect, you’ll find posts about: life, raising a two year old, fashion and budgeting. But most of all a normal girl who’s description of a work out is walking around Wal-Mart a few times to eat the ice cream in your cart.
Nothing about my life is perfect and I make a lot of mistakes, I'm learning to be a great mom and a savvy business woman all while dealing with my mental health. I am passionate about inspiring and empowering women like me, the real women of today.
